Greek Mythology and Greek Goddess Aphrodite Essay

The Greek Goddess Aphrodite is known as the Goddess of beauty, love, and pleasure. Aphrodite is equivalent to the Roman form Venus. She is a major goddess that was known to be youthful and the most appealing. As the god of love and affection, she has been involved in many affairs which also resulted in many children. The Goddess is believed to have been born from Ourano’s damaged genital thrown into the sea by Kronos after a fight. From the damaged part, she was born and arose with a foam in the sea. According to the Greek poet Homer, she was born from the God Zeus and the Goddess Dione. Because she was beautiful, many Gods wanted her for their wife. All of them argued over her along with Zeus. The arguments over Aphrodite continued; Zeus was rejected by Aphrodite. In punishment for rejection and for the good of ending all arguments, Zeus forced her to marry Hephaestus, an ugly god of blacksmiths. She was not faithful in her relationship with the God of Blacksmiths and had affairs with other gods such as Poseidon, Hermes, Dionysos, Phaethon, and others. her most famous affair was with Ares, the god of war. Hephaestus was suspicious of her and set up a trap to catch her while she was with Ares. He chained them and dragged them to Olympus to show their shame. They did not take it seriously, resulting in the two being freed and Ares paying a fine. Aphrodite had no children with Hephaestus; her children with Poseidon are Rhodos and Herophilos. Harmonia, Deimos, Phobos, The Erotes, and Anteros was with Ares. Hermes’s children are Tyche, Peitho, Eunomia, and Hermaproditos. The Charites and Priapus and children of Dionysos. Children from various others are Beroe, Astynoos, Aeneas, Lyrus, Lyrus, and Meligounis. Aphrodite played a major role in causing the Trojan War. She was involved in a disagreement with Athena and Hera that resulted in the Trojan War. Aphrodite promised the Helen of Troy to Paris while she was already married to King Menelaus of Sparta. Outraged by event and abduction of his wife, the King sent his army to fight in the city of Troy. The Trojan War resulted in the destruction of Troy.

Descrimination of Women Essay

Have you ever thought why people are different from each other? There are many differences such as intelligence, opinions, appearances, personalities and genders. Genders represent the differences and also similarities between men and women. Equality of women and men has been disputed for many years. Some people consider that this kind of equality is impossible because of their physical properties while others say the exact opposite. But no matter what they say, both sexes differ from each other greatly in some respect. In the past years, men used to be considered superior, so men were more important and valuable in the society than women. The stories Desiree’s baby and Trespass are focused the racism and discrimination by men on women. There we can see the both male demonism and racism which are very extremely harass women’s feelings. The both stories â€Å"Desiree’s Baby† and â€Å"Trespass† shows the relationship between men and women in different ways. Desiree’s Baby is the unfortunate story of a young woman who falls victim to both social and racial inequality by a man. The story is going around a husband and a wife. There is a clear undertone to the relationship between them. Both authors’ works focus on the choices and pressures that both of the main characters endure throughout the stories. Both females were powerless against their male society. The author Chopin takes a deep look into the personal thoughts and desires of her characters, especially married woman Desiree in the â€Å"Desiree’s Baby†. Socialized into thinking that African ancestry, the brand of slavery, is abominable, Armand suddenly hates his wife Desiree and the baby because of their tragic flaw, their African blood, which dramatically destroys his role as husband and father. When one’s racist nature eradicates unexpectedly the role of loving and caring for his or her relatives, the family system collapses miserably, thereby tracing a sense of seamless dismay, distress, and despair. On the other hand, the girl, Carla facing different problems in different ways by some boys and the society in Trespass. Carla struggles with the greasy qualities of language throughout this story. She struggles to understand the language style and struggles to describe to the police the relatively simple image of a man masturbating. Although she sees the image intensely in her head, she acks the tools to put it into communicable form, in either English or Spanish. The sexual content of the experience is no less an obstacle than her poor English. She realizes she has no word for genitalia in any language, although the policemen are able to follow her euphemistic substitutions easily enough. Her effort reveals the massive distance that a personal experience must cross in order to be comprehended by others, a fact we often take for granted, and which the policemen do not seem to sympathize with. In Desiree’s Baby, Desiree is asked to take her child and leave her husband Armand. Armand no longer loves his wife, because their son is not white. As Desiree explains the situation to her mother in a letter, she is lost and confused. â€Å"My mother, they tell me I am not white. Armand told me I am not white† (Chopin 6). Without Desiree knowing, it is Armand who is the cause of her son being black. Desiree’s character is strong, but very ignorant as to her family history. When Armand blames her for making the child not fully white, she has no rebuttal for she knows not where or who she came from. Desiree is a gentle and caring young woman for has a lot of heart and love for her family and friends. It is very sad that Desiree will never know the truth about why her child is mixed. If we take a look at the Trespass, the defining quality of the policemen is their indifference to her difficulties putting the image into words. Carla compares the policemen’s faces to images in a movie she is watching. The figure of speech suggests that the true drama is occurring in Carla’s mind as she confronts the imperfect bridge that language throws over the terrifying gulf between individuals. When the boys on the playground use ugly words to describe her new body, she feels almost as if they have the power of spells to create the body itself. Their language may not be literally magical, but it has the power of metaphor; it comes to define her body for her, rather than allowing her to come to her own private understanding of her sexual being. The discrimination and sexuality are equally incomprehensible, hostile, and inescapable for Desiree and Carla. The both stories mainly focused on the mentality of the two females who were struggled due to the inequality. Over the past years both gender had the big gap to understand each other; it is due to the concept of the racism and discrimination. Moreover the relationship between men and women has been changing since the world has developed. Social differences are the most studied characteristics between men and women. Both have unlike social distinctions. Women have more interaction than men among members of a group. Also, women develop more friendships than men. Men and women have peer pressure differences. For example, Men are disposed to follow their friend’s behavior, and more prejudice about what the group thinks about them than women. Men and women have adaptability differences.

Process Analysis Essays - Canadian Cuisine, English Cuisine

Process Analysis Essays - Canadian Cuisine, English Cuisine Process Analysis Process Analysis For a good reason, I find it crazy that people can so trivially disregard making a box of mac and cheese as an art. Granted, it might not be as painstaking as painting the Sistine Chapel, (thanks for that, Michelangelo) but the act of preparation of mac and cheese is still elegant and precise. From choosing the box, to adding the cheese, it is not as simple as you believe it to be. Making mac and cheese is an art and must be learned. It takes years to master the making of mac and cheese As a result, it takes focus, determination, character, and even a little bit of soul. Each batch you make has a part of you inside of it, and a good batch will have the totality of your heart and soul poured in right alongside the milk. So at this point, any sane person is going to ask me, Matt, how in the world do you do it, then? Luckily, following this is a step-by-step guide that even an idiot can follow, so hang tight and pay close attention. First, youre going to need to buy a box of macaroni and cheese Even though this seems redundant, there are some special tips to keep in mind. For one, Dollar General sells cheap boxes of mac and cheese. A Kraft box costs a dollar, and a Dollar General brand costs 60 cents. Doesnt the choice seem obvious? Dollar General brand, right? Youre wrong! Never disgrace your pot with their lackluster noodles and the powdery slop that Dollar General, or any other competitor, calls cheese. The only proper way to make mac and cheese is with a Kraft box, and if you think otherwise, stop reading here, and stay away from my kitchen, you vermin. So, youve bought your box and youre standing cluelessly in your kitchen, dumbfounded by the variety of cooking utensils. Consequently, it is time for the second step. Dig deep in your cupboards to procure a medium-sized pot and a strainer. Grab a large spoon as well, but you can substitute for a plastic spoon as well. Wooden spoons are the best because they do not conduct heat. Choose with care. In case you do not happen to have a wooden spoon or plastic spoon handy, a regular metal table spoon will be able to complete the task. Just be cautious when using it as it may heat up during the process. Make it a point to use a pot you are familiar with to bolster your success. If you are one who blindly follows instructions printed on the box, it is time for a glorious reform. That is silly mindlessness, and it will result in mediocrity on a good day. Additionally, YOU will be forced to shovel your own failure down your throat as you soak your fork in your worthless tears. How sad. The bes t thing you can do is follow the nationally-certified Matt Formula which goes as follows. Fill your pan up about halfway to three quarters with water. This is not the most important step, so dont treat it as such. Next, you should turn the burner on high, and bring the water to a nice boil. In spite of your temptation to pour the noodles right in, resist. It is futile and will only result in complications later. You will know the water is boiling when bubbles are rapidly rising to the top, and this, my friend, is when the fun begins, but the artform must start. The next few steps must be performed precisely or else your macaroni and cheese will end up in the trash just like all of your dreams. But if you complete this correctly, you mac and cheese will be held high and praised, much like you will be. If you do not wait for the water to reach its peak boiling point, you day will be anything but fun. Before you pour the noodles in, grab the packet of cheese out of the box. Now that the noodles are in the pot, you may turn the heat down from high to halfway between high and medium. The box will tell you that eight minutes is the

Reducing, Reusing and Recycling Fast Food Waste

Reducing, Reusing and Recycling Fast Food Waste Dear EarthTalk: What are the fast-food chains doing to cut back onor at least recyclethe huge amount of paper, plastic and foam they use daily? Are there any laws or regulations to force them to be good environmental citizens? Carol Endres, Stroud Township, PA Currently there are no federal laws or regulations in the U.S. specifically aimed at getting fast food chains to reduce, reuse or recycle their waste. Businesses of all kinds must always obey local laws pertaining to what must be recycled versus what can be discarded. And a small number of cities and towns have local laws specifically designed to force businesses to do the right thing, but they are few and far between. Voluntary Fast Food Waste Reduction Makes HeadlinesThere have been some strides in the fast food business with regard to packaging materials and waste reduction, but it has all been voluntary and usually under pressure from green groups. McDonald’s made headlines back in 1989 when, at the urging of environmentalists, it switched its hamburger packaging from non-recyclable Styrofoam to recyclable paper wraps and cardboard boxes. The company also replaced its bleached paper carryout bags with unbleached bags and made other green-friendly packaging advances. Some Fast Food Chains Offer Vague Policies on Waste ReductionBoth McDonald’s and PepsiCo (owner of KFC and Taco Bell) have crafted internal policies to address environmental concerns. PepsiCo states that it encourages â€Å"conservation of natural resources, recycling, source reduction and pollution control to ensure cleaner air and water and to reduce landfill wastes,† but does not elaborate on specific actions it takes. McDonald’s makes similar general statements and claims to be â€Å"actively pursuing the conversion of used cooking oil into biofuels for transportation vehicles, heating, and other purposes,† and pursuing various in-store paper, cardboard, delivery container and pallet recycling programs in Australia, Sweden, Japan and Britain. In Canada the company claims to be the â€Å"largest user of recycled paper in our industry† for trays, boxes, carry out bags and drink holders. Fast Food Recycling Programs Can Reduce Waste and Save MoneySome smaller fast food chains have garnered accolades for their recycling efforts. Arizona-based eegee’s, for instance, earned an Administrator’s Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for recycling all paper, cardboard and polystyrene across its 21-store chain. Besides the positive attention it has generated, the company’s recycling effort also saves it money in garbage disposal fees every month. A Few Communities Require Fast Food Waste RecyclingDespite such efforts, though, the fast food industry is still a large generator of waste. Some communities are responding by passing local regulations requiring recycling where applicable. Seattle, Washington, for example, passed an ordinance in 2005 prohibiting businesses (all businesses, not just restaurants) from disposing of recyclable paper or cardboard, though violators only pay a nominal $50 fine. Taiwan Takes a Hard Line on Fast Food WastePerhaps policymakers in the U.S. and elsewhere could take a lead from Taiwan, which since 2004 has required its 600 fast-food restaurants, including McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC, to maintain facilities for proper disposal of recyclables by customers. Diners are obliged to deposit their garbage in four separate containers for leftover food, recyclable paper, regular waste and liquids. â€Å"Customers only have to spend under a minute to finish the trash-classification assignment,† said environmental protection administrator Hau Lung-bin in announcing the program. Restaurants that don’t comply face fines of up to $8,700 (U.S.). GOT AN ENVIRONMENTAL QUESTION? Send it to: EarthTalk, c/o E/The Environmental Magazine, P.O. International BusinessLaw (The Fair and Equitable Treatment standard Assignment

International BusinessLaw (The Fair and Equitable Treatment standard in International Investment Law) - Assignment Example The HCITO charter expressed the rules that needed establishment. Its negotiating materials provided an insight into the way the â€Å"just and equitable† in association with the relation to the law on investments received an understanding in the 1940s. However, just and equitable treatment received limited attentions in the public debates. It received treatment from the states as being an umbrella term that covered noble policies, which needed achievement by the conclusions made on the treaties1. Fundamentally, FET strives to strike a balance between protection of the international investment and the capability of the states to regulate the key public policies. The HCITO faced three consecutive failures. For instance, in 1948, the Bogota Economic Agreement treated the notion of just treatment as an obligation. Further, it displayed the notion as a hindrance to unreasonable, unjustified, and discriminatory measures of the government policies to the public, which might impair the rights and interests acquired legally. Secondly, in 1959, the Abs-Shawcross Draft drawing on both the international law principles and the US treaty practice indicated that the FET was an umbrella term. The term was inclusive of security and protection while excluding discriminatory measures taken in favour of the international investors and their investment. Consequently, in 1963 and 1967, the OECD drafts pertaining to the PFP needed action of the FET and explained it as customary in relation to the bilateral agreements and state policies. Moreover, it equated the FET contents with that of the IMS. Henceforth, the requirements of clear and simple rules rendered the international and the state policies in relation to international investments standards obsolete. In particular, the elasticity of FET as a concept seemed to outweigh its
